Adelboden is a beautiful Swiss resort town nestled in the Bernese Oberland region of Switzerland, known for its amazing alpine scenery and traditional village atmosphere, which makes it a picturesque destination for any holiday or adventure. In the winter months, Adelboden sees some of the best ski and snowboarding conditions in all of Switzerland, with over 61 km of pistes offering breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. Nestled within the alps of Adelboden lies a Chalet… Our Chalet, which has been a centre of adventure, connection, and friendship since 1932. Our Chalet is one of four official WAGGGS’ World Centres, and back in 2015, my Christmas in the Alps experience was one of the highlights of that trip through Europe.
The World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) is the largest voluntary movement dedicated to empowering girls and young women in the world. Founded in 1928 (with some of its member countries dating decades further), WAGGGS has grown to serve millions of female members across 137 different countries. The organisation provides support, resources, and programming that shape their guiding program based around the principles of sharing and advocacy. Through these ambitious goals, WAGGGS supports millions of Girl Guides and Scouts work hard every day to help achieve these goals by taking part in projects that benefit their local communities and countries as a whole.
Visiting Our Chalet
Our Chalet offers exciting programmes running all year round, with everything from hiking to kayaking, baking to whittling, and excursions to castles and lakes, and snow sports during the winter months… although these programs are for members of WAGGGS (official members of their national Girl Guide or Girl Scout organisation). However, accomodation and day activities are offered to anyone!
If you choose to visit independently, there are a few options for accommodation. The Our Chalet campsite stretches across two patches of land on the edge of the Our Chalet grounds with magnificent views of Adelboden, the valley, and mountains. With a fully equipped, shared indoor kitchen available and unisex bathrooms, camping is an affordable option for individuals, families, and small groups looking for a peaceful open-air holiday or a base for hiking (the Via Alpina trail passes right by the site). Indoor accommodation is offered across two buildings, and is perfect for short or long stays of solo travellers, families, or groups.
